Carbohydrate Name

Core oligosaccharide

Carbohydrate Class

Core oligosaccharide [LPS]

Source Microbe

Brucella abortus S19

Basic Structure

Core oligosaccharide is composed of mannose, glucose, 2-amino-2,6-dideoxyglucose (quinovosamine), 2-amino-2-deoxyglucose (GlcN),3-deoxy-D-manno-2-octulosonic acid (KDO), and unidentified sugars. The core is linked to the lipid A, which in contrast to most LPS studied, contains both GlcN and 2,3- diamino-2,3-dideoxyglucose (GlcN3N) as backbone sugars and amide- and ester-linked long-chain saturated (C16:0 to C18:0) and hydroxylated (3-OH-C12:0, to 29-OH-C30:0) fatty acids

Proposed functions

N/A

Antigenic Nature used to produce antibodies

acetone-killed B. abortus S19 cells

Carrier Name

nil

Conjugation Method

nil

Antibodies

Mab Baro-2

Antibody type and class

IgM

Assay System

Enzyme Immunoassay,immunoblotting

Cross-reactivity

the Baro-2 MAb showed reactivity against LPS from E. coli Re, S. minnesota Re, S. typhimurium Rd2, and S. typhimurium Rdl

Proposed epitopes

3-deoxy-D-manno-2-octulosonic acid (KDO)seems to be an important part of the epitope

Proposed Utility

This Mab may help in the elucidation of epitopic distribution of Brucella abortus LPS
