Streptococcus faecium

Enterococcus faecium is synonym for Streptococcus faecium. It is a gram-positive bacterium group D, alpha hemolitic or nonhemolitic in the genus Enterococcus.

The Streptococcus faecium 9790's surface LTAs are amphiphiles composed of a membrane lipid or glycolipid which is covalently linked to a linear chain of 15 to 30 polyglycerophosphate (PGP) units.

It can be a commensal (non-harmful coexisting organism), in the human intestine, but it may also be a pathogen -- causing diseases like neonatal meningitis.
