PolysacDB Lipopolysaccharide 1831
From DrugPedia: A Wikipedia for Drug discovery
Carbohydrate Name
Lipopolysaccharide
Carbohydrate Class
Lipopolysaccharide
Source Microbe
Neisseria gonorrhoeae strain 4505
Basic Structure
Gonococcal lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a complex of at least three major antigenic determinants. The ceramide part consists of the following residues : β-D-GalpNAc-(1-->3)-β-D-Galp-(1-->4)-β-D-Glcp-(1-?)-CER-(?--/Ceramide/. The core oligosaccharide part consists of the following residues : α-D-GlcpNAc-(1-->2)-L-gro [branched to β-D-Galp-(1-->4)-β-D-Glcp-(1-->4)] -α-D-manHepp-(1-->3)-L-gro-α-D-manHepp-(1-->5)-Kdo. The other part consists of the following residues : β-D-GalpNAc-(1-->3)-β-D-Galp-(1-->4)-β-D-GlcpNAc-(1-->3)-β-D-Galp-(1-->4)-β-D-Glcp-(1-->4)-L-gro [branched to α-D-GlcpNAc-(1-->2)-L-gro-α-D-manHepp-(1-->3)] -α-D-manHepp-(1-->5)-Kdo
Proposed functions
It is an important virulence factor
Antigenic Nature used to produce antibodies
heat-killed gonococcal strain 4505 cells
Carrier Name
nil
Conjugation Method
nil
Antibodies
Mab 3F11
Antibody type and class
IgG1
Assay System
ELISA
Cross-reactivity
This Mab cross-reacted with meningococcal LPS but failed to react with LPS isolated from Escherichia coli 0:111, the J-5 mutant of E. coli 0:111, or Salmonella minnesota R595
Proposed epitopes
D-galactosamine, α and β lactose residues seemed to be the part of the epitope
Proposed Utility
This Mab may be used for epitope elucidation of gonococcal LPS
