Carbohydrate Name

O-polysaccharide

Carbohydrate Class

O-polysaccharide [LPS]

Source Microbe

Brucella melitensis 16M

Basic Structure

O-polysaccharide is a homopolymer of 4,6-dideoxy-4-formamidoct-D-mannopyranose residues

Proposed functions

N/A

Antigenic Nature used to produce antibodies

B.melitensis 16M formaldehyde-killed cells

Carrier Name

nil

Conjugation Method

nil

Antibodies

Mab BM2-28

Antibody type and class

IgG3

Assay System

ELISA, immunodiffusion and competitive inhibition assay

Cross-reactivity

This antibody was specific to B. melitiensis and did not cross-reac with O-polysaccharide of B. abortus and Yersinia enterocolitica O:9 polysaccharide

Proposed epitopes

This Mab reacted only with M antigen. The crucial element of the M epitope is a disaccharide, α-D-Rha4NFo(1-->3)α-D Rha4NFo, that requires adjacent α1,2-linked residues for full activity. The common epitope of A and M antigens is a linear α1,2-linked tri or tetrasaccharide

Proposed Utility

This Mab can be used as a use as standard Brucella typing or detection reagents
