Neurotoxic drug

A neurotoxic drug is a substance proven or otherwise thought to cause the disruption or permanent alteration of normal brain activity through observable physical damage.

Drugs may include, but are not limited to:

  • Alcohol
  • Antidepressants
  • Amphetamines
  • Barbiturates — Much of neurotoxicity research centers around hypoxia related to barbiturates used during anesthesia
  • DXM (Dextromethorphan) Neurotoxicity suspected after being injected directly into the bloodstream, damage has never been documented in humans.
  • PCP (Phencyclidine) -Damage has never been documented in humans.
  • Ketamine -Damage has never been documented in humans.
  • Nitrous oxide -Damage has never been documented in humans.
  • Aspartame
  • MPTP
  • Cocaine
