[edit] Definition

A branch of Toxicology, is the application of biomedical research and drug development to efficiently use a promising drug in the right patient circumstances and assess its efficacy in the human using appropriate indicators such as biomarkers.

Scientists work in multidisciplinary teams involving basic researchers, clinicians, patient care providers, regulators, and ethics boards.

Basic scientists provide new tools for use in patients and for assessment of their impact, and clinical researchers make novel observations about the nature and progression of disease that can lead to further basic research.
