[edit] Carbohydrate Name

Galactomannan

[edit] Carbohydrate Class

Miscellaneous

[edit] Source Microbe

Aspergillus flavus EV 701

[edit] Basic Structure

Galactomannans are composed of an α-1,6-linked mannan backbone substituted with mannopyranose oligosaccharides and immunodominant terminal galactofuranose present either singly or linked to oligogalactosides

[edit] Proposed functions

The wide distribution and similar chemical structure of the galactomannans have been responsible for serologic cross-reactions

[edit] Antigenic Nature used to produce antibodies

formalinized A. flavus EV 701 spores

[edit] Carrier Name

nil

[edit] Conjugation Method

nil

[edit] Antibodies

Mab EBA-1

[edit] Antibody type and class

IgM

[edit] Assay System

ELISA, Immunofluorescence and immunoblotting

[edit] Cross-reactivity

This Mab cross-reacted with the five Aspergillus species (A. fumigatus ATCC 1028, A. flavus ATCC 10124, A. niger ATCC 10549, A. versicolor ATCC 16845, and A. terreus CBS 106.25) but not with other medically important fungi, such as Sporothrix schenckii ATCC 14096 and Candida spp. (25 strains, including 10 ATCC strains, 2 CBS strains, and 13 clinical isolates, representing seven species, i.e., C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. [Torulopsis] glabrata, C. pseudotropicalis, C. parapsilosis, C. guilliennondii, and C. krusei). They also failed to react with the 15 different bacterial species tested

[edit] Proposed epitopes

an epitope located on the β(1-->5) galactofuranose containing side chains of the galactomannan molecule

[edit] Proposed Utility

This rat Mab can be used against A. fumigatus galactomannan, already applied to the serological and immunohistological diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis
