PBAN is an hormone that controls sex pheromone production in female moths. PBAN also mediates visceral muscle contractile activity (myotropic activity). PBAN is identical to MRCH which is implicated in the formation of both melanin in the cuticle and ommochrome in the epidermis of armyworm species
